چکیده

Abstract In this study, we present the efficiency of remediation scenario to attenuate impact acid mine drainage (AMD) contamination in Kettara abandoned site. The study focuses on AMD groundwater Sarhlef shists aquifer. To predict evolution site under scenario, a model flow and transport was performed. Piezometric heads were measured at dry wet periods from eleven wells located downstream wastes. elaborate conceptual model, faced with heterogeneity anisotropy fractured Consequently, focused use various approaches: 1. inverse modeling by CMA-ES algorithm is adopted as an alternative approach determine hydraulic parameters indirectly, 2. treated equivalent porous media (EPM). carried out steady-state transient conditions using PMWIN interface. obtained results are satisfactory show excellent correlation between computed heads. Contaminant used solve advection–dispersion equation generate concentration MT3D via A sensitivity analysis dispersivity coefficient out. simulation during 1, 5 10 years, performed indicates that simulated concentrations reduced 1000 times comparing current concentrations. revealed necessary addressing environmental issue for contamination. will be start-up further research work area implementing it prevention propagation plume.

Acid Mine drAinAge (AMd) MAnAgeMent

AMd is recognized as one of the most serious environmental problem in the mining industry. the problem of acid mine drainage (AMd) has been present since mining activity began thousands of years ago. Mining activity has disrupted the hydrology of mining areas so badly that it is extremely difficult to predict where water would eventually re-emerge. its causes, treatment have become the focus of...

Characterization of an Acid Mine Drainage Site in Southern Illinois

Two seams at the Tab-Simco abandoned underground coal mine site in southern Illinois were mined intermittently from the 1890’s until 1955, and later surface mined. The stripping operations resulted in several break-ins into the old underground works which were later buried by mine spoil. The resulting mine pool in the lower of the two seams has been producing an average of ~150 m per day of aci...
